Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church is a parish of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Denver under the omophorion of His Eminence Metropolitan Isaiah.
We welcome visitors to all of our services. When you visit, be sure to stay for the Fellowship Hour held in the church basement after every Sunday Liturgy. There you can enjoy refreshments and conversation with our priests and parishioners, and learn about the Orthodox Church.
Our Mission
"Go into all the world and make disciples
of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the
Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,
teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you."
Our Lord, God, and Savior Jesus Christ
St. Matthew's Gospel, chapter 28
Our church was founded fifty years ago by Orthodox Christians of Greek heritage. We welcome everyone, of whatever ethnicity, who wishes to embrace and live the Orthodox Christian Faith as it has been preserved in the Orthodox Church from the time of the Holy Apostles until today.
Along with the faithful descendants of our Greek founders, our congregation today includes people of Russian, Eritrean, Ukranian, Romanian, Serbian, Armenian, Egyptian, Bulgarian, and Arab heritage, as well as many converts to Holy Orthodoxy from other traditions.
“The Church is not the property of any one nation or
ethnic group, but includes all who believe rightly.”
(Metropolitan Anthony Khrapovitsky,
the first primate of the
Russian Orthodox Church Abroad)
Our liturgical language is primarily English, since it is the common language that is understood and spoken by our parishioners.
Like most parishes of the Patriarchate of Constantinople, we follow the new (Revised Julian) calendar. This means that we celebrate the non-moveable feasts (e.g., the Lord's Nativity) thirteen days before the churches that follow the old (Julian) calendar, such as those of Russia and Serbia.
We have a Sunday Church School to instruct our children in the Law of God and help them grow in the Orthodox Faith.
A lively Bible Study group meets on most Wednesday evenings.
Every other month, a group from our parish prepares and serves a meal at a local homeless shelter. This is an opportunity to obey Christ's commandments in a tangible and effective way.
